The Quality Control Department at Metro Cash & Carry started in 2002 at the Company's Headquarters in Athens and its main aim was to establish internal quality control procedures in our stores.

  • In 2002, developments in the retail and wholesale trade made the post of a Quality Officer necessary.
  • In the beginning of 2006, the ever-increasing needs led to the creation of a Quality Control Department.  Based on the Guide on Hygiene that is issued by the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET), METRO Quality Control Department built the infrastructure and set up an entire base where the Food Health & Safety regulations are complied with in the context of the Company's stores.
  • Over the three-year period from 2002 until 2005, important procedures were established with a view to adopting quality standards by all the Company's people. thus fulfilling the management's vision regarding the establishment of a reliable food company with European range.

Nowdays, the Quality Control Department has established and implements a Control Program on all the Company's stores and its Central Depot.  The Company is one of the most important Greek food companies today.

The Quality Control Department is now staffed by specialist scientists and is synonymous with strict control procedures for the sake of defending quality and the interests of consumers, while it is constantly being developed further.  Whenever you see a young child taking some kind of food off the table or out of the refrigerator to eat, it is proof of the indubitable level of confidence; confidence in his parents for offering him something good and healthy.

The Quality Control Department knows this is exactly the level of confidence today's consumers demand.  For this reason, it takes every measure through a number of procedures and quality controls so that consumers can enjoy this level of confidence.  Correct food health and safety management is now a legal requirement for all food companies through the development and application of self-control procedures offered by HACCP in line with with KYA 487/2000 and in full compliance with Directive 93/43/EEC - Hellenic Government Gazette 1219/Β/4-10-2000.
